The Friary School

Vision and Ethic

The Friary School is committed to securing the highest possible standards and retains a relentless focus on providing the best possible experience for students, parents, staff and our community that we possibly can.

Our school Mission Statement reflects this pursuit and outlines our ultimate priority:

“High achievement through challenge and support for every learner.”

Of course, we recognise the importance of exam success, but achievement at our school is far more than simply a high test mark. Achievement could be starring on the stage, proving victorious on the sports field, taking on a student leadership role, or building up firm friendships that last beyond school years.

Additionally, student and staff decided upon our own Friary Ethic – a set of characteristics and moral principles that we believe are crucially important and which should apply to everyone connected to our school:

The Friary School seeks to be the best we can be, we are certain we know the route to achieve this, and we expect everyone to buy into this.

Having taught across a string of schools in London and the West Midlands, Matt is on his second headship at The Friary and started at the school in September 2016. His career has seen him take on roles in five senior teams, provide consultancy expertise in other schools, and speak at regional and national conferences. He also keeps one foot inside the classroom and continues to ensure he retains a teaching timetable.

Matt is Staffordshire born and bred, and lives locally, so very much prioritises the school remaining at the heart of the community. This ensures there are plenty of projects with local charities, businesses and organisations, and that the school maintains a focus on looking after the very people who provide and reside alongside the children for the school. Equally, within the absolute rigours of strong exam results and readiness for the world of work, he holds on to his belief that our students are also children and that school should offer the fun, enthusiasm and energy that make life exciting.
